Boost Business Momentum with a Business Consultant

Business owners know that sometimes their business model needs a transformation in order to take it to the next level. As the owner of a business, you want to ensure that your company thrives and continually moves forward.

The reality is, it's common for businesses to go through cycles, which can include ups and downs. However, if the stagnation continues, you may want to consult with a business coach. An experienced consultant can give a lagging business a jumpstart. Here are five ways that business coaching can boost a company’s momentum.

  • Identify and Eliminate Hindrances

One of the most challenging things for any business or individual to do is to identify true hindrances to success. Whether it's a hindrance to interpersonal growth or a hindrance to a business’s growth, zeroing in on the true cause of the problem is difficult.

Why is this?

We tend to see things from our own perspective, which is limited. We don’t see the whole picture of our business or our own self from an objective point of view. Our view is limited and colored by our life experiences.

A business coach offers a unique perspective, one that is unfiltered and raw. One that gets to the root of challenges and helps bring about change.

We work to minimalize the limited perspectives by taking leaders and staff through exercises that expands their vista on issues. Certain tools are specifically utilized to distance oneself from the emotions being generated from a problem in order to reduce fear, stress and limited viewpoints to one of a fresh perspective.

  • Recognize and Capitalize on Company Strengths

Every company has incredible strengths that, if tapped in to, will be a wealth of power. Each team player will maximize their potential when they are placed in a position that brings out their strengths. In other words, if one person’s strength is leadership, you want them in a position that will use this strength. A coach helps identify the business strengths and the individual strengths and furthermore, finds ways to enhance what is already working but may not be being fully utilized.

  • Develop a Strategy That Fits Your Business Model

Without a strategy, your business is tossed back and forth. Developing a solid strategy brings clarity to your business mission and goals. By defining your objective in written form, your business coach will guide you, helping you craft a strategy that pushes your goals forward.

Business coaches insure you are still in alignment with your mission and values while asking you to push forward through company and personal limiting beliefs to create the next phase of growth. This means putting on your ‘risk’ hat and playing with ideas in a logical, financial and creative way in order to produce a new result, not just a recycled result.

  • Engage Your Whole Brain for Maximum Output

Most people rely more on one side of their brain than the other side. You’ve probably heard the terms “right-brained” and “left-brained.” The right side of the brain is responsible for more creative activities, while the left side of the brain is considered the logical side.

However, with brain training techniques, you can engage both the right and left side. This will bring a more holistic approach to the job, and you’ll get more accomplished, increase staff retention, develop leaders that impact staff to truly follow their lead with a ‘leaning-in’ type of engagement.

Years ago, Roger von Oech wrote the book, “A Whack on the Side of the Head”. It is a book about creativity and he was often consulted with large firms such as Apple, CBS, Coca-Cola, NASA and more. Since I use whole-brain thinking in helping companies move through their ‘blocks’ I found his “mental locks”, meaning those thought processes and attitudes that don’t support new ideas or fresh ways to accomplish your objectives and keep you on the cutting edge, still alive and well in many of today’s businesses. Those mental locks Mr. von Oech cited were:

  • The right answer
  • That’s not logical
  • Follow the rules
  • Be practical
  • Play is frivolous
  • That’s not my area
  • Avoid ambiguity
  • Don’t be foolish
  • To err is wrong
  • I’m not creative

What I found so immensely thought provoking about these attitudes is that we often fall captive to doing business a certain way because that’s the way it’s been done. I believe this inherently says that we don’t trust ourselves to create something better. We inhibit the expansiveness of our own minds to play with new possibilities that can not only serve us and our customers better in our future but we become a more conscious company meeting today’s needs in thought provoking ways.

Enhance Your Leadership Skills

Without positive leadership skills, it’s difficult to operate a business smoothly. A strong leader will be successful in encouraging the team to do their best. Traits of a strong leader are:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • High emotional intelligence quotient
  • Negotiation abilities
  • Ability to reduce workplace conflicts
  • Calmness under stress and pressure
  • Capable of motivating others
  • Possessing characteristics that others want to emulate
  • Good listener

A business coach helps the new manager develop these skills or even refresh and update these skills with a tenured leader. They always enhance your leadership qualities so your team is engaged. Through business consulting, you will learn how to resolve common workplace conflicts and discover constructive ways to deal with difficult situations.

When operating a business, you need to take advantage of all the tools that are available to drive your business forward. Sometimes the tools you need may be technological, other times you may need marketing advice, but sometimes you will need the help of a business consultant to propel you to the next level of success. I am a strong believer in befriending polarity. Define your business so that you set yourself apart from the others in your industry. It’s important to be dissatisfied. Once you see, feel or experience some level of dissatisfaction is the time to engage in creative think.
